There is nothing better than a fresh wild salmon grilled on the BBQ. Mmmmm....it really takes us back to the West Coast. One of our very fav places to go.
Wild salmon is a much healthier option compared to farmed. In our opinion farmed salmon, actually all farmed fish, should be avoided. The health benefits from wild salmon far outweigh those of farmed fish.
Be careful when shopping for salmon, read the label carefully. Aside from the the fact that wild salmon has a deep salmony color compared to the lighter color of the farmed, it also has higher amounts of calcium, iron, and zinc, contains less sodium, and has less fat than farmed.
Farmed salmon is more likely to have traces of antibiotics than wild salmon would because of the type of feed that is used. We suggest you go wild whenever possible! Take advantage of it when you can because depending on where you live it may not always be abundant.
If you love to BBQ (and salmon) and are looking for a good, healthy, easy recipe : here it is!
- Drizzle with extra virgin olive oil, and rub the oil into the salmon.
- Sprinkle with your favourite fish blend. (Ours is Bow River Fish Blend from The Silk Road Spice Merchant in Calgary).
- Cut a fresh lemon, place the slices on your salmon. Put the salmon skin side down on the BBQ over high heat for 10-15 minutes (depending on how well done you like it). We cooked ours for approximately 12 minutes and the center was still fairly rare.
- Tadaa! If you like lemon feel free to squeeze some more fresh lemon juice on top. Serve + Enjoy :)!
