I have a few favourites that if I didn't control myself I would turn into a modern day micheline man...hey maybe it would be worth it?!
But who is to say to can't have your cake and eat it too. There is no reason that you cannot live a kick ass healthy life, be super fit, and still eat burgers, pizza, ice cream , whatever, once in a while.
The obvious key word is once in a while!
If you focus on a healthy diet 80%-90% of the time, reach for one of those treats every so often. I know that I do. It keeps you sane. There are a ton of awesome delicious foods to try in this world it would be a shame to eat chicken and spinach the rest of your life.
Life happens. You don't want to become that person that people don't even like going out with because you can't order anything on the menu or have a drink or two. You absolutely can structure a super healthy diet and lifestyle around having a socially good time with friends and family.
So...what are some of my tasty treats I cannot live without?
Thin crust or thick crust? I don't really care. It just has to be good quality and fresh ingredients. You know what I am talking about. You ever tried one of those 2am pizza's not at 2am? I wouldn't recommend it!
Oh another thing...sometimes I truly prefer a gluten-free crust. Not necessarily because I am trying to be healthier and avoid gluten, but because I really do prefer it.
The catch, similar to pizza itself gluten-free crust has got to be good quality. A nice crispy crust with a chewy center! The second you have a bad one you will know what I mean. It is like holding soggy paper towel instead of a pizza crust.
On the same lines as pizza however doughnuts gotta' be good. You know those ones that have been sitting in a grocery store or a day or two? No thanks.
I am talking those fresh, warm, melt in your mouth kinds that come in some pretty crazy flavours. In Calgary, we are fortunate to have a shop that probably makes some of the best in the world.
The flavours...maple bacon...coconut (I know not out of this world but my fav)...peanut butter cup...smore...the list goes on.
If I am not careful I can easily crush a dozen. Yep it has happened once or twice!
Definitely got to be careful with this one though. Cheesecake is super rich, loaded with sugar and fat, you can probably consume your daily calories with a couple pieces. Ya ya you probably don't eat a couple pieces but again if I am not careful...I am a fat kid at heart!
Here is the best part...my wife makes this grain-free crust that is out of this world. Truly better than your typical wheat variety. Anyone of our friends who has tried will surely attest to it!
I cannot remember the exact proportions of ingredients but it is pretty much almond flour and coconut oil. I will ask her for the recipe and send it out to our email list!
What are some of your favourite treats?
