It starts in the morning, before we even wake up. Or I suppose as we are waking up (most of us don't have the luxury of waking up with the sunlight and birds chirping, if you are lucky enough to do so, count yourself as blessed!)....Most of us wake up to that blaring alarm sounding BEEP..BEEP..BEEP..BEEP. If this is how you find yourself waking up, this is the first small thing that you may want to consider changing. Being jolted awake leads to an immediate stress response. Instead, choose something that is quiet, soothing, and quieter (loud enough that you will hear it of course). This way you can quietly lay in bed for the next few moments, instead of shooting upright in bed faster than a lightning bolt! Which leads me to the next small thing...
If you don't already do this, take a few minutes to think about your intentions for the day. What is it that you want to get out of today, maybe you have tasks that you've been meaning to get done, people you've been meaning to meet with, or maybe you plan on devoting your day to becoming better at a certain yoga pose :) Whatever it is that you plan on doing, make sure you devote those few minutes to the intentions you have to achieve those goals.
After finally managing to get out of bed, if you are like me the first stop is the coffee machine. Lately I have decided that my body does not need to depend on coffee. I have been thinking about trying to give it up or at least cut back on my daily coffee intake these past few months but just haven't had the courage or perhaps willpower to make the decision final!
Next, why yes is getting cleaned up and ready for the day. I make sure that I am using sulphate free personal care items wherever possible. Remember that your skin is the largest organ of the human body. Think of it this way, could you safely eat the lotion you are putting on your skin? If you answered no, maybe this will lead you to re-consider why you are using it on your body.
