Anything that will inhibit, slow, stop, or even reverse your forward progress towards reaching a specific goal. This isn't specifically geared towards fat loss. You could have a limiting factor in your relationship or in your career.
Why remove limiting factors?
Limiting factors can be so strong that they will overwhelm any positive progress that you are trying to make. You may have to best nutrition program in the world but if you have some underlying factor acting in a negative fashion, you will not see the results you are looking for.
For example, let’s say you begin a new nutrition program that is perfectly designed for your body type. You jump right in and follow it perfectly for 4 weeks. After the 4th week you jump on the scale only to find you have only lost 5 pounds. What gives? Why haven’t you seen the results you should?
Well you are a new small business owner. You wake up at 5am everyday and put in 16 solid hours. After work you try to spend a little time with your family and after that you hit the gym. Before bed you spend a little more time on emails, etc. and you finally hit the sack at 12-1am. You are getting 4-5 hours of sleep per night! I don’t care what anyone says…you can follow your new program to a “T” but with only 4 hours of sleep under your belt the results will be dismal.
There are 5 main limiting factors that may be holding you back from achieving your goals:
There is not one person on the planet that cannot see positive weight loss results through proper diet and exercise. That being said every single person is different and certain goals need to be realistic. For example, can everyone simply start working out and look like Dwayne “the Rock” Johnson? Can you start playing basketball and win a championship with Lebron James?
Obviously the answer is NO!
This doesn’t mean however that you can use your genetics as a fall back for why you are not seeing the results you are looking for. Implementing the proper nutrition and training program will get you to where you want to be. You do need to be committed to making a change in order to reach your goals, but if you do that you WILL be SUCCESSFUL!
Your activity level is an integral part of a healthy lifestyle and simply put, most people do not get enough exercise. Let’s face it, most people move from the bed, to the car, to their office chair, back to the car, to the dinner table, to their favorite chair, and finally to bed.
You are considered sedentary if you take less than 5000 steps per day and unfortunately most people fall into this category. While activity level is not the top reason you are not losing weight, if implemented properly, increasing your activity and training will only increase your results.
Moving more frequently in combination with strength training is a great one, two punch enhance your weight loss and help achieve your goals!
In some instances certain imbalances or dysfunctions in your body will have a negative impact towards reaching your weight loss goals. For example, you could have a severe testosterone imbalance which is inhibiting your ability to add muscle. Or maybe you have high levels of cortisol (stress hormone) and cannot seem to drop that added fat around your mid-section.
While it may be difficult to determine if you have a physiological limiting factor right off the get go, it may be something to look into if you are not seeing the results you believe you should.
If you are going to approach this program with a sort of, maybe, I might, kind of attitude you simply will not see and feel the results. Your commitment to change may be one of the largest factors in your success.
You could have the absolute best knowledge, information, or program but if you are not committed to implementing it, it all is fairly meaningless. So when you ask yourself why you may not be seeing the results you thought, really think about how diligent you have been with the program.
Last but certainly not least is nutrition. Nutrition is the single most important aspect of a healthy lifestyle and weight loss. Without a good nutrition regiment your weight loss will be frustrating and unenjoyable. On the flip side, learning what and why to eat certain foods will allow you take hold of your life and see the results you have been looking for.
