Hippocrates said this thousands of years ago but only recently have we been learning the true importance of gut health. In fact a unhealthy gut can be linked to numerous degenerative disease and fixing it may be the key to unlocking optimal health.
I eat a pretty damn good diet. Usually a large salad with a lean meat for my first meal, oatmeal and whey protein after my workouts, and a dinner of veggies, lean meats, and starchy carbs (usually white rice, potatoes, yams, or quinoa).
Not to bad hey?
I get lots of healthy fats, loads of vitamins, minerals, and phytonutrients, and eat very little sugar and processed carbs.
But if I am being honest, sometimes after dinner I would can become bloated and start gassing out the joint. Not cool.
So, I decided to try and fix this issue. But then I thought, if I am going to fix this issue why don't I do an entire gut healing program? Then I thought, well if I going to do a gut healing program why don't I also learn what foods I may be intolerant or sensitive to?
So that is exactly what I am doing with my 30 Day Elite Gut Reset program!
Now, I little more about the about the gut...
There are 2 main areas you need to focus when it comes to your gut health.
- Repairing the gut barrier or lining
- Restoring the "proper" gut flora (all the little micro-organisms)
First the gut barrier...
You may have heard the term "leaky gut" before. It implies just that. With the consumption of many foods in our diet our gut lining becomes permeable to protein molecules. These protein molecules then leak out into the bloodstream, not supposed to happen, and your body attacks them as foreign pathogens.
As your body dukes it out with these unwanted protein molecules in your blood, a wide range of autoimmune and degenerative disease can develop.
Even worse, there are zero symptoms. You may feel hunky-dory even though your body is is constantly waging war against these foreign invaders and manifesting into all sorts of health issues.
Second, the gut flora.
Bet you didn't know this...our gut is home to approximately 1,000,000,000,000 microorganisms (1). That is kind of a lot.
Really we are more bacteria than human. We live synergistically with all these little critters but when we upset their environment, our gut, things start to get nasty.
Antibiotics, environmental toxins, industrial seed oils, wheat, processed cards, sugar are just a few of the "things" we consume the lead to unhealthy gut flora
Over 70% of your immune system resides in your gut so from a very simple perspective if your gut flora is unhealthy you are unhealthy.
Like a leaky gut, unhealthy gut flora is linked to the onset of many degenerative and chronic diseases. It is therefore of utmost importance that we maintain both a healthy gut barrier and a wide variety of healthy microorganisms in our gut.
So how do we do this (the 3 R's)?
Step 1: Remove all foods which contain toxins and anti-nutrients to fix the gut lining.
Step 2: Restore the healthy micro-flora in the gut.
Step 3: Re-introduce certain foods to determine what foods we are sensitive and intolerant to.
