I have always said that if you are not striving to make yourself better you are allowing yourself to become worse. Now is a perfect time to take that to heart!
I know that I want to do both!
I would be lying if I said I didn't dabble (gorge) into some wine, cookies, chocolate, and pie over the holidays.
But now it is time to get back on track. No, not a resolution. Just healthy habits that will lead to your ultimate goal whatever that may be.
I personally want to get as lean as I have ever been, as healthy as I have ever been, and as mobile/flexible as I have ever been. I am super sick of a tight groin, sore back once in a while, etc.
Am I going to eat perfectly clean for 4 months...NOPE. Am I going to do yoga everyday...NOPE...although I wish I could!
How will I kickstart my journey?
To get lean I will eat clean and in a calorie deficit 6 days per week. Once a week I will have a re-feed day. Not necessarily a cheat day, but I day in which I eat a lot more carbs than on those other 6 days.
This doesn't mean I am going to eat broccoli, chicken breast and rice fore 6 days a week. Just good healthy meals in a slight deficit. Implement some good habits and stick to em'!
To become more flexible I will focus on doing at least 10 minutes of mobility work every day. This includes some soft tissue work on a lacrosse ball and foam roller, some dynamic stretching, and some work with bands.
Once this becomes a habit for me then I will increase my mobility sessions to 15 minutes than perhaps 20. Whatever I need to do to reach my end goal.
Simple right? That's because by starting small and slowly working up increases your chance of success (reaching your goals) tremendously.
What are some of your goals this year?
How about losing 20, 30, 50 pounds?
If yes, here is a really good start...begin eating a little less than you are used to. Eating a small calorie deficit is the easiest and simplest way to begin dropping a few pounds. This is especially true for individuals who find it very difficult to give up certain foods.
Maybe focus on nailing one meal at a time instead of doing a complete diet makeover. Telling someone to completely change something big in their lives, like eating, only works for about 5% of people.
Let's say that your breakfasts are generally shitty because you are always in a rush when you wake up. You don't have time to make anything and once you get to work all bets are off. Finding a healthy meal around the office is like finding a pot of gold at the end of the rainbow...it just isn't going to happen!
Tell yourself that you are going to get up 15 minutes early in order to make a healthy breakfast. Easy enough right?
Don't stress or worry about any other part of your diet until you have your breakfast's mastered. Then move on to your next "worst" meal of the day.
Kickstarting your health journey begins with small changes that will compound over time!
Set a few goals health and fitness goals for yourself. Decide what habits you need to implement in order to make them happen, then, jump right in!
If you need a hand with a jump start I have a couple things that just may help?
