Adhering to a nutritional program, a specific diet plan, or simply a healthy way of life is no different. Continually perform the same healthy habits and success is sure to come. And the best way to stay consistent is the prepare and plan ahead.
I have a dream, a goal for Elite Life and Wellness and myself. It is big no doubt. I know what I want the end goal to be and now it is up to me to create the necessary habits to achieve that goal.
I get up at 4:45am everyday to work on these habits and steps in order to one day reach my end goal. It is currently 5:27am and here I am writing this blog. Sure it could wait till later. I could write it at noon or perhaps this evening, but that is not the habit that I have created for myself.
Craig Ballantyne says it best "win your morning own your day". I took that to heart and haven't looked back since!
But I also prepare for these mornings, prepare to achieve my success. I meal prep for the week on Sundays so I don't not have to think about food at 5am. I have all my shirts ironed. My gym clothes already in my bag for the next day.
These might seem like small insignificant tasks but preparation, in my opinion, is the number one way to achieve anything!
Let's take fat loss. Say you want to lose 50 pounds. Doesn't happen over night does it. Sure it may seem like a hefty goal but it is totally possible.
But what do you think is a better approach...telling yourself you want to lose 50 pounds so you are going to start eating better and exercising more? Or telling yourself you want to lose 50 pounds by eating a veggie omelette every morning, a salad with chicken for lunch, exercise 3-4 times per week on your lunch hours, and making sure that a healthy dinner of lean meats, loads of vegetables, and a little low glycemic carbs?
My guess is the latter. By doing this you have already reverse engineered the necessary steps it takes to achieve your BIG goal. Now it is time to prepare.
Do you think this plan will work if you write down these habits or action steps without any preparation. Not a chance! You need to prepare so that success, even on the smallest scale, in achievable.
So what does preparation look like in this case?
Well on Sundays you should strongly consider preparing your veggie omelettes, chicken salads, and any healthy snacks you may need for the week. Have them ready to go for each day so that you do not even have to think about it.
At the very least you need to prepare to eat healthy by having only healthy foods in your house. That is preparation in it's simplest form. If all you did was buy healthy foods and no longer have any junk in your house, you will lose some weight and become a healthier person. It may not get you 100% of the way to your goal but it is a start.
Have 3-4 days of gym clothes washed, separated, and also ready to go. No one wants to be looking for a pair of socks or gym shorts at 6 in the morning!
You could take this a step further. Instead of simply going through the motions at the gym follow a specific program or training guide. Walking into a gym not knowing what your workout that day is going to look like is the sure road to failure.
Know exactly what your workout is going to look like, the weights you are going to use, how long it should take, all before you even step foot into the gym. This will not only keep you motivated but you are now prepared for the necessary action steps to achieve your goal.
Now everything should still be enjoyable. If you hate veggie omelettes then don't eat veggie omelettes. Have a protein smoothie instead.
If the training program you have been following sucks, find a new program to follow.
If you are not enjoying the ride the destination may never come!
Your habits, action steps, and the way that you prepare for them do not have to be static. They can change over time. What is important is that they exist.
I do not write a blog post every morning. But I get up at the same time everyday to build, grow, and work on traits that I need to improve. All steps that help me get one step closer to my end goal.
The blueprint to achieve anything, especially fat loss, looks like this:
1. Dream Big
2. Reverse Engineer Your Goal
3. Prepare For Success
This doesn't mean that everything will be easy. But nobody said it should be easy.
Meal prep can be boring and monotonous. However your success is greatly increased when you do it. If you want something bad enough you will take the necessary steps to achieve it.
