One really nice thing about chili's is that you can really throw anything you like into them. We haven't followed a recipe in years. Once you learn the basics of a chili you can create all kinds of creative dishes.
We generally don't make chili much in the summer, but with the leaves starting to change colour, we thought it would be a great time to fire up the crock pot again. We tried a "new" recipe and fell in love with it! An added bonus is that we tossed in some yams into this recipe so with a little more carbs than your typical chili, it is a great post workout meal.
Legumes are typically hard for most people to digest (queue the "magical
fruit" song). They also contain some anti-nutrients in them that can also
cause some issues...unless they are prepared properly. The proper preparation
involves soaking the beans, letting them begin to sprout, drying them, then
using them for cooking. Lots of work so we do not bother.
Here is our "recipe" for our latest
500 grams ground beef
500 grams ground
1 can diced tomatoes
1 can tomato paste
1 extra large peeled,
1/2 diced onion
4 dices celery stalks
1 diced yellow
2 tablespoons chili powder
4 teaspoons garlic powder
1 teaspoon cumin
1/4-1/8 teaspoon cayenne (depending on
how spicy you like it)
We simply tossed everything into our crock pot and
cooked on either high for 4ish hours or on low for about 9-10 hours.
